Introduction

Computer Science Faculty: Computer Science began as a department within the Faculty of Engineering at Nangarhar University, where it functioned for five years before being elevated to the Faculty of Computer Science in 2011. The faculty is based in Jalalabad. Since its establishment as an independent faculty, it has made notable academic achievements and has contributed significantly to the development of higher education in the field of computing. Up to the present time, the faculty has successfully graduated 20 batches of students. Now, the faculty is run into two shifts: morning shift and night shift. This catalogue provides key information about the Faculty of Computer Science, including an overview of the Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) program, profiles of faculty members, and details about the administrative structure.

The Bachelor of Computer Science program offers a balanced curriculum that includes both fundamental and advanced courses in areas such as database development, network design, and software development. In line with the values of Islamic education, the program combines theoretical knowledge with practical training in computer programming and related disciplines. Beyond technical instruction, the program aims to strengthen students’ abilities in programming, network design, research methods, and essential soft skills that are necessary for academic success and professional careers in Afghanistan.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, advancements in technology, science, and other fields demand continuous improvement in educational programs. As a result, curriculum review and development have become essential aspects of modern higher education. The Bachelor of Computer Science program has therefore been structured to enhance students’ intellectual and practical capabilities in programming, data analysis, and the critical interpretation of technical resources. In addition, it encourages the development of software design skills, research competence, and the effective use of interpersonal and professional skills in both academic and real-world environments.

The Faculty of Computer Science remains committed to delivering high-quality education at Nangarhar University. Faculty members play a central role in maintaining this standard by adopting modern teaching approaches that address the academic needs of students. Furthermore, the faculty promotes interdisciplinary collaboration by offering computer programming and related courses to students from different academic fields across the university.

At present, the Faculty of Computer Science employs 18 experienced lecturers. Many of these faculty members have participated in short-term and long-term academic training programs in countries such as the United States, Germany, India, Japan, and Pakistan. In addition, six lecturers are currently pursuing their PhD degrees in various countries. As of 2026, the faculty serves approximately 711 enrolled students in both the morning shift and the night shift.
