Welcome to Nangarhar University, the fastest growing university of Afghanistan!
Nangarhar University (NU) is the second largest university established in 1963. It is one of the highly renowned universities in Afghanistan.It has 11 faculties which are composed of Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary, Science, Computer Science, Shariah, Law & Political Science, Economics, Literature, and Education. It has more than 7,000 students, more than 300 instructors, and around 300 administrative staff. It has been serving in the eastern zone of the country for the last 47 years in training professionals in different fields to serve in public and private sectors. It has presented many well-trained cadres to the region and society who are constantly busy in fostering and serving for the rehabilitation, education, and peace keeping in the country. In addition, they are proud to call themselves as NU graduates.
NU aspires to educate its students in accordance to the Islamic, national and democratic ideals and values. It fosters active participation in the rehabilitation and development of Afghanistan and is strong enough to meet all the academic requirements of the region and the world at large.
NU is an academic higher educational institution. It aims to educate the new generation in different disciplines in order to serve the society, region and the world. In addition, it endeavors to lead in providing solutions to the current issues and problems through research. All in all, NU strives to be among the leading institutions to bring about peace, solidarity, dignity and prosperity to the society.
NU has had academic partnerships with the world class universities like Bochum (Ruhr) and Tu-Berlin Universities of Germany; San Diego State University and Borlock Institute Chicago USA. It also has academic relations with the famous universities of Pakistan and India. NU has sent its energetic and young faculty members for acquiring Masters and PhD degrees in different universities of the world. Soon they will revert to NU with their most updated knowledge and understanding of the world. They will definitely bring about great positive repercussions in the educational setup of the university: we are eagerly looking forward to their returning.
NU has also developed a five year Strategic Plan, which has recently been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. It has taken some solid steps in implementing the plan by organizing some specific programs. For instance, it arranged a program for the motivation of female students to join university. It aims to extend such motivational programs in the coming years. Furthermore, NU is advancing towards the accreditation system with a remarkable speed. It is now in the Self Assessment stage, but soon it will acquire the highest place in accreditation.
We now understand well that the nations with the power of knowledge shall lead the world. So, let us make Afghanistan a nation rich of knowledge power. Most importantly, NU has a clear vision for the future and it strives hard for bringing in high quality education, outstanding student support, and excellent personal and professional development. I am, personally, looking forward to having you with us to make this a reality.
Afghanistan has been through a very difficult situation. The three decade war has devastated most of the institutions. NU could not escape from the unfavorable affects of the prevailing scenario. However, despite the calamitous conditions, it has taken some unyielding steps in academic and rehabilitation process and is on the way forward. Therefore, the national and international academic, social, and developmental organizations and institutions are cordially invited to join and assist NU for its noble and developmental causes.
