Brief Introduction to Horticulture Department

Horticulture is one of the most important departments of the Faculty of Agriculture in Nangarhar University. At the beginning in 1357, when the Faculty of Agriculture was established at Nangarhar University, the Department of Horticulture was not included in the structure of the Faculty of Agriculture, but later, due to its great importance in the development of the agricultural sector in the eastern and central zones and its importance in the structure of the Faculty of Agriculture, through the support of highly qualified lecturers/professors the Department of Horticulture was added in the structure of the Faculty of Agriculture in  1363. This Department has 8 members, 4 of which hold master’s degrees and the remaining four doctorates, while one of the members are currently pursuing their PhD degrees abroad and other one in side country.

At the academic level, the Horticulture Department has two professors, three associate professors and four senior teaching assistants.

To date, 1188 students have graduated from the Department of Horticulture including seven female students. At present, the Department of Horticulture has 171 male and 9 female students in all four classes.

For the development of the horticulture sector, the academic staff have published many textbooks in the national language Pashto to address the shortage of teaching materials and to the fill the skills gaps in students and provide effective help and support to the departments and professionals. At the same time, they have published many national and international journals. Horticultural products are the most important products in terms of food, health and economic aspects. The most important point is that the horticulture department has the honor of a master’s degree program for this 1402, and the coursework of the master’s degree program is currently in progress.
